Mosel

Welcome to the magical Moselle wine region, a place known for its delicious wines, but also the infamous "Blue Nun" Riesling. The Moselle is proud to produce some of Germany's greatest wines - and that's no exaggeration.

What makes this region so unique is not only the steep slopes along the serpentine course of the Moselle, but also the slate soils and the sun-drenched southern exposures, which offer ideal conditions for growing Riesling grapes. Here the power of the sun flows into each individual wine, resulting in an outstandingly finely tuned taste experience.

Riesling, often an underestimated grape variety, finds its home here and develops its full potential. With a long storage option, it proves that it is one of the longest-lasting wines in the world. In fact, not far from us in Northern Germany you will find a very special jewel: the oldest still filled Riesling wine barrel from 1653. It is located in Bremen and is a truly historical relic that reflects the inimitable character and tradition of this grape variety.

Above Koblenz you will find the best locations: Bernkastel, Wehler Sonnenuhr, Braunberg and Piesport. These vineyards enjoy an unparalleled reputation and are true treasures for wine lovers around the world.

It is the unique combination of the slate soils and the cooler climate that produces wines of incredible elegance and slenderness. The mineral nuances of the slate give the wines a special finesse, while the cooling caused by the influence of the Moselle river emphasizes the fruit character and preserves a remarkable freshness.

Maturation takes place in large old barrels, which, unlike the small new oak barrels, do not leave a woody taste in the wine.

Let yourself be enchanted by the wines from Bernkastel, where the steep slopes are dominated by slate soils. Here the sun combines with the unique terroir to create wines whose finesse and complexity are unmatched.

The Wehler Sonnenuhr is another jewel of the Moselle, whose vineyards rise impressively into the sky like a sundial. The sunlight in this location ensures optimal ripening of the grapes and gives the wines a wonderful balance and fullness.

The Braunberg stands for wines of breathtaking purity and elegance. The minerality of the soil is perfectly captured here and combines with a lively acid structure to create a harmonious taste experience that dances on the palate.

Piesport, another standout location in this high-profile wine region, offers wines of graceful lightness and subtle complexity. The balance between fruitiness and acidity is simply irresistible and underlines the class of the wines from this location.

Imagine sitting on a terrace surrounded by steep vineyards while tasting a sparkling Riesling from the Moselle. The aromas of green apples, peaches and citrus fruits caress your senses and awaken memories of sunny days and unforgettable moments.

So, grab a glass of this wonderful wine and let yourself be enchanted by the magic of the Moselle. Try a Riesling and let yourself be taken on a journey into the world of the finest wine. Here you can expect incomparable taste experiences and a story worth telling.

My tasting notes for the 2013 Dr. Loosen Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr:

This Moselle drop is a refreshing treat that is reminiscent of the cool morning after a long summer night. The structure of the wine is as delicate and fine as Chinese porcelain. You will taste the pure freshness of green apples and herbs. The taste remains present on the palate for an extremely long time. This wine impresses with its finesse and straightforwardness, without distracting from any frills or deviations. It goes excellently with smoked salmon, langoustines or, if aged a little, with a bouillabaisse.
