Our Apartments

No matter whether you come to the heath for a short weekend or a whole week, whether to cycle, hike or relax, we hope that you feel at home with us. The apartments are furnished with love and attention to detail, the beds have a fragrance of fresh country air and are cosily soft and the bathrooms have everything you could wish for.

If you need a little more warmth, you can relax in our small sauna while your eyes wander over the vast fields and you can relax under the trees.

Those whose heart beats for a glass of wine and a good cigar will find comfortable seating areas scattered throughout the grounds.

Time out and enjoyment in the countryside of the Lüneburg Heath

Welcome to Villa Muenchbach. Would you like to spend a few days in the country?

Want to relax without the children, drink a good glass of wine, stroll across the meadows and relax in the sauna? Then you've found the right place.

Our half-timbered farmhouse, built in 1912, is located in the small village of Wittenwater, nestled between the large Nordheide (North Heath) and the dreamy Südheide (South Heath).

The farming village has just 60 inhabitants, so the fields begin right behind the villa.

While you stay in luxurious and elegant apartments, you wake up to cows lowing and the cockerels' morning greeting.

The landscape with its endless expanses is ideal for cycling and hiking, and the best way to explore the local streams is with a stand-up paddle or kayak tour.

Even though we are in the middle of the countryside, those with an affinity for culture are certainly not left out.

Wittenwater is located next to the monastery town of Ebstorf (1.8 km) with its historic village centre and the beautiful monastery founded in the 12th century, which houses the Mappa Mundi from 1300.

Lüneburg and Celle can easily be reached in 30 minutes by car and Hamburg and Hanover are just 60 minutes away.

The restaurants and shops in Ebstorf and Uelzen can easily be reached from us in just a few minutes and if you want to relax in a thermal bath, you will get your money's worth in Bad Bevensen and Soltau.

The Muenchbach Villa

The property on which the villa is located is around 5000 m² and invites you to linger and dream. The residential building itself has an area of over 800 m², of which around 400 m² is used for rental.

The attic is the studio of the painter Karoline Winter, who contributes to the continuation of the house's artistic tradition.

On the first floor you will find a cosy communal landing as well as a double room and two apartments.

The garden apartment is on the ground floor.

There is parking available on the property and you can blissfully relax in our barrel sauna.

The concept of the house means that you can purchase the works of art on display and many of the lovingly selected accessories.

The topic of wine is of course very important to us. The apartments are named after well-known wine regions such as the Moselle or Burgundy, a small selection of wines awaits you in the wine cellar and you can book your own wine tasting with us.

House and concept

The villa is an old half-timbered house that was built in 1912 as a so-called "Sugarbeet Castle". The houses owe their name to the economic boom at the turn of the century, when sugar factories were built and farmers, using their newly acquired wealth, built sophisticated farmhouses that resembled large country villas.

The first artist to work here was Wilhelm Rieckmann, who farmed here with his family and wrote over a hundred poems.

Gott

Göttlich sind der Schöpfung Werke,

göttlich, was sich neu verjüngt.

Was aus ew’ger Kraft und Stärke

sich in seine Bahnen schwingt.

Göttlich ist der Gang der Zeiten,

göttlich ist, was uns erhält.

Gott thront über Ewigkeiten

Als der Herr der ganzen Welt

From 1971 to 2018, the artist Georg Münchbach worked and lived in the villa with his wife and son. During this time, he created countless sculptures and paintings, some of which are exhibited in the house and garden.

Wittenwater itself is a hamlet with twenty houses in the Lüneburg Heath. The small village is known among archaeologists because of a 5000-year-old settlement that was excavated here. The area is full of barrows and sacrificial stones that can still be visited today. Georg Münchbach wrote about the place:

“There are many places that are good for work. Only beyond this can a place be evaluated. There are places of power. Wittenwater is such a place.”
